DESCRIPTION

Learning takes place not only within the four walls of the classroom. The Primary 2 pupils were able to connect the knowledge learned in the Science class about the ‘Environment around Us’ to the real life situations.  The pupils observed and explored the three different habitats – garden, pond and field.  They involved themselves in discovering the different factors that affect the survival of the animals found in the different habitats through scientific investigations. They too suggested ways of taking care of the different habitats. It was a fun-filled learning for all the Primary 2 boys and girls.

DESCRIPTION

Teaching and learning does not only take place in the four corners of a classroom. Students also learn beyond classroom. One of the avenues that learners acquire knowledge and skills is in a community or field. In a learning journey students are exposed to an environment that serves as their classroom wherein hands-on activities are given to them. Learning journey let them experience what the texts in their textbooks explain. They perform what the video clips show in their class and they feel what the characters express in the stories they read.

These reasons are exactly the same with the rationale of the school of letting the students go beyond learning in the classroom.

Primary 3 pupils can attest that they have learnt after they have gone through the different learning stations in ANCOL-ECOPARK.

The pupils learnt about alternative energy sources and organic fertilizers using rubbish and animal waste.

They have also fed various kinds of animals. This activity allowed the students to classify the animals. They did not only enjoy the activities but they have also acquired learning that they find in their worksheets.

Learning journey gave the Primary pupils an opportunity to experience how the farmers grow rice that we eat in our respective dining table. They have plowed and planted rice like how farmers do. They have truly enjoyed this activity.

Truly, Primary 3 pupils have learnt beyond classroom through the various activities that they have engaged in and unlock their curiosity in a different environment or classroom setting.

DESCRIPTION

As part of our commitment to engage our students to different learning experiences, the school has arranged a 3-day  learning journey to Yogyakarta for the Primary 6 students. The activities are  designed to help our students achieve teamwork, cultural awareness and reflective learning experiences.

On their first day in Yogyakarta, the students explored the local village called Penting Sari whereby they learned to dance a traditional Javanese dace gracefully. Moreover, the students had their fun hands-on activities as they caught fish in the mud, made handicrafts out of coconut leaves and played a traditional musical instrument called gamelang.

During the second day, the Primary 6 students had a meaningful and engaging experience as they taught basic English lessons and donated English books to SD SLeman 1 students. They also visited Borobudur, a UNESCO Heritage Site.

The third day was spent with an array of activities for their Amazing Race. The Primary 6 pupils were divided into 7 groups and raced to various famous landmarks in Yogyakarta. It was not only educational but also enriching, fun-filled day!
